COVID-19 Visitor Update
As always, the protection of our patients and staff is our highest priority.
- A patient may have a maximum of two visitors at any one time
Current visitor policy
- Our visiting hours are between 10am-8pm (and not during the rest period of 1.30-2.30pm).
- Exemptions are in place for end-of-life-care and compassionate circumstances will be considered on request and will require approval of the General Manager (or the Hospital Coordinator after hours).
If you are currently COVID positive or a household contact and are wanting to visit a patient who is currently at end of life, please call the hospital to discuss arrangements.
You can help us by getting your third (booster) dose, fourth dose if you are eligible and practicing social distancing. We thank you for your continued patience and support.
We apologise for the inconvenience and hardship this may cause, but appreciate your understanding of the need to keep patients as safe as possible during these challenging times. Please contact your loved one by telephone or device, and our friendly staff will support regular digital drop-ins so you can keep in touch.

Melbourne Private Hospital is one of a number of health services and research institutes co-located on the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Royal Women’s Hospital campus at Parkville, Melbourne.
The main entry for MPH is on Royal Parade, Parkville. It is located opposite the University of Melbourne campus and adjacent to The University High School campus.
It is strongly recommended that patients and visitors consider using public transport or taxis wherever possible.
There is very limited car parking available on-site or in the surrounding streets.
- Drop-off and pick-up - 10 minute parking is available directly outside MPH on the Royal Parade service road.
- Underground car park behind MPH and Royal Melbourne Hospital, commercially managed by an external provider – keep ticket to pay on Level 2.
Please note: - First 30 minutes is free on Monday to Friday before 5pm
- A flat rate of $10 applies after 5pm on weekdays and on weekends
- Please see the parking rates board for available concessional rates and liaise directly with the parking office to discuss your eligibility
- Metered parking in surrounding streets.
Train: City Loop
- Travel to Melbourne Central station, then catch a connecting No. 19 or No. 59 tram to the Royal Melbourne Hospital stop
- Travel to North Melbourne station, then catch a connecting No. 401 bus to the Royal Melbourne Hospital stop
- Travel to Flagstaff station, then catch the connecting No. 58 tram to the Royal Melbourne Hospital stop
From 30 November 2023, the new Royal Melbourne Hospital/Royal Parade accessible tram stop will be in operation. Please note Metro Tunnel works are still underway and there are changes to the way you move around the precinct during these works. More information on these works and associated changes to road and pedestrian connections in the precinct is available at metrotunnel.vic.gov.au
Taxi: Our reception staff can call a taxi for you.
If you require a wheelchair taxi please advise Taxi Service when calling of your request.
There is a taxi rank on Grattan Street near the main entrance to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Wheelchair drop-off/pick up can be made from the entry at the rear of the hospital (next to the driveway to the underground carpark)
All food brought into the hospital needs to be safe for patients to eat.
If family members or friends choose to bring in food for patients, special care must be taken in food handling and transportation to ensure that no patient is affected by food poisoning.
Please advise the nursing staff that the patient has received food from outside the hospital.

We pride ourselves on our attractive and appetising choice of meals from the menu provided.
Our menu is prepared in consultation with a dietitian to ensure nutritional needs are met.
If you have any special dietary requirements or food allergies please advise the nursing staff on admission.
Wine and light ale are available to be enjoyed with your evening meal upon request with your doctor’s approval.
Melbourne Private Hospital is a smoke free hospital.
This applies to all persons within the hospital building and grounds.
